We wanted to end the year in a special way by giving all the local Fast CAT fanatics one last hurrah for the year. So to put a bow on the 2019 season we will be hosting two Fast CAT events on Saturday the 28th and one Sunday morning on the 29th. That will be followed by a special event. Dog Sports Unlimited will be holding the first annual Fast CAT Challenge that afternoon and evening.
Here's how the Fast CAT challenge works:
Team Challenges
There are two types of teams in this category. Teams are either made up of one dog from each size group or three dogs from the same size group. There are four different Team Challenges. We have the Mixed Teams Challenge and then we have three different Challenges based on Small, Medium, and Large dogs.
Mixed Relay Teams
Teams of three dogs, one from each size group, will compete as a team.
Each dog runs and the times are added together. That will be the team's time. Each team makes two runs. The times for both runs are added together and the team with the lowest total time wins.
*Only one sight hound per team.
Small Team Challenge
Three dogs from the small dog category (less than 12") will run and their times will be added together. That will be the team's time. Each team makes two runs. The times for both runs are added together and the team with the lowest total time wins.
*Only one sight hound per team.
Medium Team Challenge
Three dogs from the medium dog category (12" to less than 18") will run and their times will be added together. That will be the team's time. Each team makes two runs. The times for both runs are added together and the team with the lowest total time wins.
*Only one sight hound per team.
Large Team Challenge
Three dogs from the large dog category (18" and taller) will run and their times will be added together. That will be the team's time. Each team makes two runs. The times for both runs are added together and the team with the lowest total time wins.
*Only one sight hound per team.
Solo Challenges
Small Dog Solo Challenge
Dogs in this size category compete against each other. Each dog makes two runs. The times are totaled and the dog with the lowest total time wins.
Medium Dog Solo Challenge
Dogs in this size category compete against each other. Each dog makes two runs. The times are totaled and the dog with the lowest total time wins.
Large Dog Solo Challenge
Dogs in this size category compete against each other. Each dog makes two runs. The times are totaled and the dog with the lowest total time wins.
* In case of ties in Team Challenges each team will make one more run and the team with the lowest time wins. For Solo Challenges each dog will make one more run and the dog with the lowest time wins.
Awards
Awards will be given for the following accomplishments:
- Fastest Mixed Relay Team
- Fastest Small Relay Team
- Fastest Medium Relay Team
- Fastest Large Relay Team
- Fastest Small Dog
- Fastest Medium Dog
- Fastest Large Dog
- Fastest Team
- Fastest Dog
The challenge is open to all individuals, clubs, and organizations. You can enter a team challenge or a solo challenge. You can also enter in multiple categories. A dog can be entered on a Mixed Relay Challenge and a Medium Relay Challenge. You would not be able to be on two different Mixed Relay teams or two different Medium Relay teams. In no instance can a dog compete against itself. Additionally, a dog can only compete in its appropriate size category. A small dog can't run in a medium or large dog Challenge. The maximum number of Challenges a dog can be entered for is three (Mixed Relay Challenge, One Size Specific Relay Challenge, and a Solo Challenge).
Dogs entered in solo Challenge can also be on teams. For dogs on teams and also entered in a solo Challenge, their first two runs will be added together and counted towards their solo Challenge. Dogs entered in solo Challenges will make two runs over the course of one hour and those times will be added together.
Team and individual trophies will be awarded at the end of the Challenge. We will also be handing out two special trophies for fastest overall individual dog (whether entered in a Solo Challenge or not) and fastest overall team. The cost to enter is $60/Team and $20/Solo.
Due to time restraints, Challenge categories are limited to the following number of entries:
Relay Challenge (Mixed) 6 Team Entries
Relay Challenge (Small) 6 Team Entries
Relay Challenge (Medium) 6 Team Entries
Relay Challenge (Large) 6 Team Entries
Solo Challenge (Small) 10 Solo Only Entries (All dogs entered in Team Challenges may enter Solo Challenges)
Solo Challenge (Medium) 10 Solo Only Entries (All dogs entered in Team Challenges may enter Solo Challenges)
Solo Challenge (Large) 10 Solo Only Entries (All dogs entered in Team Challenges may enter Solo Challenges)
What better way to end the year than to come together to celebrate the sport of Fast CAT?
The Fast CAT Challenge is designed to bring Fast CAT people together in a way not possible in normal Fast CAT trials. It adds the dynamics of team sports and anytime you can share the fun with fellow teammates, it makes the event all the more special. So the next Fast CAT you go to, you might want to get the name of that little Frenchie flying down the track. It's never too soon to start building your Fast CAT Challenge dream team!
