WEST VOLUSIA KENNEL CLUB AT A GLANCE
COMMUNITY SERVICE
The West Volusia Kennel Club is involved in all aspects of dog ownership in Volusia County. Being part of our club is a great way to stay up to date on issues regarding your dogs. Some of our members and their dogs visit rest homes and similar facilities. Our club started the Prison Pups N Pals program where our instructors taught prisoners to obedience train dogs from a local shelter which in turn helps prepare the dogs for adoption into their forever homes. After many years of running the program, it is now up and running on its own. We offer Breeder Referral Service to the community providing information on buying a puppy, finding breeders and other information on dogs.

WVKC EVENTS
The club holds our annual All-Breed Dog Show in September at the Volusia County Fairgrounds. We have our annual picnic in the summer and we have many fun activities during the year. We frequently do Meet the Breed demonstrations at special events during the year.
OBEDIENCE/RALLY
In today’s world you don’t have to look far to find someone teaching a Puppy or Obedience class. However, we offer more than just a simple puppy class. Our instructors have years of experience and some have up to 30+ years of experience working with dogs! We offer classes for each stage of Obedience so your dog is sure to find a class you will be comfortable with.

CONFORMATION HANDLING CLASSES
At our handling class we cover all aspects of showing your dog from picking out a show lead, movement, ring etiquette to grooming. On the last night of class we have a mock show! Whether you are a novice or an experienced handler wanting to socialize a new dog, there is a place for you! We offer one on one instruction and classes may be separated according to size of dogs and the need. We enjoy working with and encourage Junior Handlers to participate. It is a great opportunity to learn what showing a dog is all about!
RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP
Not only does our club honor Responsible Dog Owners Day in September each year but we strive to educate dog owners on being responsible throughout the year within our variety of classes that we offer as well as temperament tests and Canine Good Citizen testing. We also visit schools to educate children as to how to be a responsible dog owner.
